Blade Details
D2 tool steel is a high-chromium, high-carbon tool steel widely used in premium handmade knives for its combination of excellent edge retention, wear resistance, and ability to take a high mirror polish. The 10-inch blade is ground to a clip point profile with a false edge along the clip, providing excellent piercing capability at the tip alongside a long, efficient slicing belly. The two parallel blood grooves (fullers) are precision ground into both flats of the blade — running the full usable length from bolster to tip, creating the distinctive visual signature of this blade design. The mirror polish finish on D2 is a labor-intensive achievement — the high chromium content of D2 polishes to an exceptionally bright, long-lasting reflective finish that showcases the blade geometry and blood groove lines with maximum visual impact.
Handle Details
The natural dark stag horn handle is selected for dramatic dark brown coloration with cream highlights — the deep, ridged texture of natural antler provides an exceptionally secure grip in field conditions. A white pin secures the handle to the full tang. The braided dark cord at the butt end provides a lanyard carry option. The gold brass bolster transitions cleanly between the mirror polished blade steel and the organic stag horn, creating a strong visual anchor at the blade-to-handle junction.
Sheath Details
The dark brown genuine leather sheath is fitted for the full 10-inch blade and features a gold brass tip cap at the bottom protecting the sheath point during wear, gold snap buttons along the body for secure retention, and precise stitching along the full perimeter. The integrated belt loop provides standard belt carry. The dark chocolate leather will develop a rich patina with field use over time.
The Hunter’s Bowie

The combination of mirror polished D2 blade with dual blood grooves, gold brass bolster, and natural dark stag horn handle creates a visual package that is equally impressive at a campsite or on a display wall.

Craftsmanship
Every element of this knife is built by hand. The D2 tool steel billet is forged, ground, heat-treated, and mirror polished by a craftsman. The dual blood grooves are precision ground into the blade flats. The gold brass bolster is fitted precisely at the blade shoulder. The dark stag horn handle is selected, shaped, pinned, and fitted over the full tang. The braided cord lanyard is fitted at the butt. The dark brown leather sheath is cut, stitched, and fitted with the brass tip cap and snap hardware by hand. No two knives are identical in stag horn coloration or mirror polish character.

Care Instructions
Wipe the mirror polished D2 blade clean with a soft lint-free cloth after each use. Hand wash only — never dishwasher. Dry immediately after any contact with moisture. Apply a light coat of blade oil to the D2 blade occasionally — D2 has moderate corrosion resistance due to its chromium content but benefits from regular light oiling especially in humid or salt-air environments. The stag horn handle is best wiped clean with a dry cloth and occasionally lightly oiled. Condition the leather sheath seasonally with leather conditioner.
Keep out of reach of children. Always follow proper knife safety practices during use and storage.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are blood grooves (fullers)?
Blood grooves, also called fullers, are channels ground or forged into the blade flat running along the length of the blade. They reduce the blade’s weight without reducing the structural strength of the spine or edge — the I-beam geometry created by the fuller actually stiffens the blade flat. On a large hunting Bowie, dual blood grooves are both a functional weight-reduction feature and a defining visual design element.
Why D2 tool steel?
D2 is a semi-stainless high-chromium tool steel with excellent edge retention and wear resistance. It holds a working edge longer than most high-carbon steels and takes a better mirror polish than most stainless steels — making it an ideal choice for a large hunting Bowie where edge performance, visual presentation, and corrosion resistance all matter. D2 is harder to work than 1095 or 15N20 but rewards the extra effort with superior performance characteristics.
Is the stag horn genuine?
Yes — the handle is made from genuine natural stag horn antler. Each piece is unique in color, texture, and grain. No two handles are identical.
Is this suitable as a gift?
Yes — the combination of D2 tool steel mirror polished blade with dual blood grooves, gold brass bolster, and natural dark stag horn handle in a 15-inch Bowie makes this an exceptional gift for hunters, outdoorsmen, and knife collectors.
