Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our handcrafted Damascus blades — from ordering to care.

🔪 About Our Knives

What is Damascus steel?

Damascus steel is created by forge-welding multiple layers of high-carbon and stainless steel together, then folding and twisting them to create the distinctive flowing pattern. Our blades feature 256+ layers, giving each knife a unique, one-of-a-kind appearance and exceptional strength.

Are your knives hand-forged?

Yes. Every blade at True American Blades is hand-forged by skilled craftsmen. No mass production — each knife is individually shaped, heat-treated, and finished by hand to ensure premium quality.

What does "full tang" mean?

Full tang means the steel of the blade extends the full length of the handle. This construction provides superior balance, strength, and durability — making our knives built to last a lifetime.

What handle materials do you use?

We use premium materials including rosewood, walnut, bone, horn, and stabilized wood. Each handle is carefully shaped and finished to complement the blade's character.

Yes! We ship to most countries worldwide. Shipping times and rates vary by destination. Please note that it is the buyer's responsibility to check local laws regarding knife imports before ordering.

How long does shipping take?

How long does a custom order take?

Custom orders typically take 3–6 weeks depending on complexity and current workload. We will provide a timeline estimate when you place your custom request.

Can I get a knife engraved as a gift?

Yes! Engraving is available on select models. It makes for a truly memorable and personal gift. Mention your engraving request when contacting us for a custom order.

🛡️ Care & Maintenance

How do I care for my Damascus knife?

Hand wash only — never put Damascus knives in a dishwasher. Dry immediately after washing. Apply a light coat of food-safe mineral oil to the blade periodically to prevent rust and maintain the pattern's beauty.

Will my knife rust?

Damascus steel contains high-carbon steel which can develop surface rust if not properly maintained. Regular oiling and proper storage will keep your blade in perfect condition for decades.

How do I sharpen my knife?

We recommend using a whetstone for best results. Start with a coarser grit (400–600) and finish with a fine grit (1000–3000). Maintain a consistent 15–20 degree angle for a razor-sharp edge.

↩️ Returns & Warranty

What is your return policy?

We accept returns within 30 days of delivery for unused items in original condition. Custom orders are non-refundable. Please visit our Refund Policy page for full details.

What if my knife arrives damaged?

If your order arrives damaged, please contact us within 48 hours with photos of the damage. We will arrange a replacement or full refund promptly.

Do your knives come with a warranty?

Yes. All our knives come with a craftsmanship warranty against manufacturing defects. Normal wear and improper care are not covered. Contact us if you have any concerns.
